Permalloy Stacked Core is a soft ferromagnetic core with excellent material properties such as high linearity and very low hysteresis through a high-temperature heat treatment process. Permalloy Stacked Core is designed for high-speed, non-contact current detection together with magnetic field sensors (e.g., Hall sensors and current conductors). The core also protects the sensor from parasitic magnetic fields caused by nearby conductors or other magnetic field sources.

Permalloy Stacked Core Key characteristics and function
Construction:
Composed of multiple thin laminations (e.g., 0.2 or 0.35 mm thick) of high-permeability permalloy, which are stacked and often welded or mechanically interlocked to form a closed-loop core, such as an EE or stacked structure.
Primary Application:
High-speed, non-contact current sensing, often in devices like clamp ammeters, current transformers, and other power meters.
Mechanism:
The stacked core concentrates the magnetic field generated by the current-carrying conductor and guides it to a magnetic field sensor, like a Hall sensor, located within the core's gap. This allows for a highly sensitive and accurate measurement.
Performance:
High permeability and low hysteresis of the permalloy material allow for high linearity and accurate measurements across a range of temperatures.
Protection:
By creating a low-reluctance path for the magnetic field, the core effectively shields the sensor from external magnetic fields, improving the accuracy of the measurement.
