What is non oriented silicon steel?
Ferrosilicon alloy with very low carbon content. The grains in the deformed and annealed steel plate are randomly oriented. The silicon content of the alloy is 1.5% to 3.0%, or the sum of the silicon and aluminum content is 1.8% to 4.0%. The products are usually cold-rolled plates or strips with nominal thicknesses of 0.35 and 0.5mm, which are mainly used to manufacture electric motors and generators.

- Non-oriented fully processed silicon steel
Non-oriented, fully processed silicon steel has varying silicon levels that range from 0.5% to 3.25% Si. It has uniform magnetic properties in all directions. This type of silicon steel does not require recrystallisation processes to develop its properties. The low silicon alloy grades provide better magnetic permeability and thermal conductivity. For high alloy grades, better performance is expected in high frequencies, with very low losses. This type is excellent for magnetic circuits in motors, transformers, and electrical system housing. This fully processed type provides difficulty in punchability due to a completed annealing process. Organic coatings are added to improve lubrication in the punching process.
- Non-oriented semi-processed silicon steel
Non-oriented semi-processed silicon steels are largely non-silicon alloyed steel and are annealed at low temperatures after the final cold rolling. The end-user, however, has to provide the final stress-relief anneal according to the steel’s intended application. The punchability of this silicon steel type is better than the non-oriented fully processed type, so organic coatings are not required. Non-oriented semi-processed grades are good core materials for small rotors, stators, and small power transformers.

Cold Rolled Non Oriented Silicon Steel Classification
A. Silicon steel sheets can be divided into low silicon and high silicon according to their silicon content. Low silicon wafers contain less than 2.8% silicon. They have a certain mechanical strength and are mainly used to make motors, commonly known as motor silicon steel sheets. High silicon wafers contain 2.8%-4.8% silicon. They have good magnetism but are brittle and are mainly used for Used in manufacturing transformer cores, commonly known as transformer silicon steel sheets. There is no strict boundary between the two in actual use, and high-silicon wafers are commonly used to manufacture large motors.
B. According to the production and processing technology, it can be divided into two types: hot rolling and cold rolling. Cold rolling can be divided into two types: grain non oriented and grain oriented. Cold-rolled sheets have uniform thickness, good surface quality, and high magnetic properties. Therefore, with the development of industry, hot-rolled sheets have a tendency to be replaced by cold-rolled sheets (our country has clearly required the discontinuation of the use of hot-rolled silicon steel sheets, which is what was previously called "Cold instead of hot").

Non Oriented Silicon Steel Performance Index
A. Low iron loss. The most important indicator of quality, countries around the world use iron loss value to classify grades. The lower the iron loss, the higher the grade and the higher the quality.
B. High magnetic induction intensity. Silicon steel sheets can obtain higher magnetic induction under the same magnetic field. The size and weight of the motor or transformer core made with it are relatively small, which can save silicon steel sheets, copper wires and insulating materials.
C. The stacking coefficient is high. The surface of the silicon steel sheet is smooth, flat and uniform in thickness, and the stacking coefficient of the core is improved.
D. Good film processing properties. This is even more important for manufacturing small and micro motor cores.
E. The surface has good adhesion and weldability to the insulating film, and can prevent corrosion and improve punching properties.
F. Magnetic aging phenomenon is small. Silicon steel sheets must be delivered after annealing and pickling.
