Cold-rolled grain-oriented steel, also known as cold-rolled transformer steel, is an important ferrosilicon alloy used in the transformer (core) manufacturing industry1. Its production process is complex and the manufacturing technology is strict. It is mainly divided into two categories: common oriented silicon steel (CGO) and high magnetic induction oriented silicon steel (HiB). Let me explain these types and characteristics in detail.

Commonly oriented silicon steel (CGO): The grains of this silicon steel sheet are non-oriented and are usually used in the cores of motors or welding transformers. Its thickness is usually 0.30 or 0.35 mm, and it is made by pickling, cold rolling and annealing. Compared with hot-rolled silicon steel strips, cold-rolled oriented thin silicon steel strips have the characteristics of smooth surface, uniform thickness, high stacking coefficient, and good punching performance. They have higher magnetic induction and lower iron loss than hot-rolled silicon steel strips. Using cold strip instead of hot-rolled strip to manufacture motors or transformers can reduce its weight and volume by 0% to 25%. If cold-rolled oriented tape is used, the performance will be better, the power consumption of the transformer can be reduced by 45% to 50%, and the working performance of the transformer will be more reliable.
High magnetic induction oriented silicon steel (HiB): This silicon steel sheet also has grain orientation, but its performance is superior. In the rolling direction, the iron loss value is the lowest, the magnetic permeability is the highest, and it has a high magnetic induction value under a certain magnetizing field. High magnetism:CRGO cold rolled grain oriented steel has great magnetic properties in the direction of rolling. This increased magnetism is because, in grain-oriented silicon steel, the overall magnetic properties of the material are dependent on those of the individual grains.
