An iron-based magnetic composite core transformer core is made by combining different materials, such as iron powder or amorphous alloys, with a binder like epoxy resin to create a composite material with properties superior to its individual constituents. This is a way to create a magnetic core with tailored properties, such as those for power electronics or filtering applications. These composite cores are used in transformers, inductors, and electromagnets, offering advantages like improved energy efficiency and performance, as seen in systems like those with high current and low voltage.

Types of composite cores
Powdered Iron Cores:
These consist of iron powder mixed with a non-conductive binder material, such as epoxy resin, to insulate the particles and reduce eddy currents. This is done by controlling the particle size and shape during production.
Amorphous Magnetic Alloy Composites:
A composite core made from iron-based amorphous alloy powder, which is bonded together to form a high-performance magnetic core.
Laminated Cores:
While not technically a composite in the same sense as bonded powders, laminated cores are built from thin sheets of magnetic material (like silicon steel) pressed and glued together. The lamination process is a method for reducing eddy currents and energy loss.
Advantages of transformer core
Improved efficiency:
By using materials that are optimized to reduce core losses (like eddy currents), these composite cores can significantly improve energy efficiency compared to solid iron cores.
Tailored properties:
Manufacturers can combine different materials and adjust the composition and structure to achieve specific magnetic, mechanical, and electrical properties needed for a particular application.
Reduced magnetic interference:
Some composites can be specifically designed to shield sensitive electronic components from stray magnetic fields.
Integration:
Composite cores are beneficial for the integration of power electronics, as they can be customized for specific applications.
