An amorphous C core is a type of transformer core made from an amorphous metal alloy, which offers lower energy losses, higher efficiency, and improved performance compared to traditional silicon steel cores. These cores are used in high-frequency applications, such as in power transformers and inductors, to enable smaller, more efficient designs. The "C" shape is formed by cutting a toroidal amorphous core, and the material's high magnetic permeability and low iron loss are key advantages.

Transformer C Core Feature
High efficiency:
The amorphous alloy material has high electrical resistivity, which significantly reduces eddy current losses, especially at high frequencies, leading to lower energy loss and higher efficiency.
Improved performance:
Amorphous C cores have superior magnetic properties, including high saturation flux density, which allows them to handle higher magnetic fields and makes them suitable for high-power applications.
Compact and versatile:
The superior performance allows for the design of smaller and lighter transformers and inductors.
Adjustable inductance:
The inductance can be adjusted by adding an air gap to the C-shaped core.
Wide range of applications:
They are used in various devices, including switching power supply transformers, pulse transformers, filter inductors, and reactors in solar inverters.
amorphous cores and nanocrystalline cores
Both amorphous cores and nanocrystalline cores are new types of soft magnetic cores. Their key differences lie in performance and application scenarios: the former focuses on high-frequency and low loss, while the latter emphasizes high precision and environmental resistance.
Core Differences
Amorphous cores: Have disordered atomic arrangement, extremely low high-frequency loss, and low cost, but with slightly lower saturation magnetic induction and poor high-temperature performance.
Nanocrystalline cores: Feature a mixed structure of amorphous and nanocrystalline, with high saturation magnetic induction, good linearity, and temperature resistance (-25℃~85℃), but slightly higher cost.
Application Scenarios
Amorphous cores: Suitable for high-frequency, low-power scenarios, such as high-frequency switching power supplies, small household transformers, and radio frequency filtering.
Nanocrystalline cores: Suitable for high-precision, high-power scenarios, such as precision current transformers, new energy vehicle charging piles, and photovoltaic inverters.
Which to Choose
Choose amorphous for high frequency, low cost, and low power.
Choose nanocrystalline for high precision, environmental resistance, and high power.
