Toroidal Iron Amorphous Core Product Description


The Amorphous Toroidal Core is a toroidal magnetic core component made by winding amorphous soft magnetic alloy strips. Its core advantages are ultra-low magnetic loss and high magnetic permeability.

Combined with the closed magnetic circuit characteristic of the toroidal structure, it can maximize energy savings in high-frequency and high-efficiency scenarios. It is a key component for achieving equipment energy efficiency and miniaturization in the high-end electronics and new energy fields.

Amorphous alloy Toroidal Core Characteristics

1.Ultra-low Magnetic Loss:

The irregular atomic arrangement of amorphous alloys results in much lower magnetic domain rotation resistance than crystalline materials (e.g., silicon steel), with hysteresis loss only 1/3 to 1/5 that of high-grade silicon steel. The toroidal closed magnetic circuit further reduces magnetic energy leakage at seams, making the overall loss 15% to 25% lower than non-toroidal amorphous cores. It is particularly suitable for high-frequency alternating magnetic field scenarios.

 

2.Excellent Magnetic Permeability and Saturation Magnetic Flux Density:

Its magnetic permeability at room temperature is several times that of traditional soft iron, enabling rapid response to magnetic field changes and making it suitable for precise magnetic signal conversion. With a saturation magnetic flux density of approximately 1.5T to 1.8T, it can conduct more magnetic energy in a smaller volume, facilitating equipment miniaturization (e.g., the volume of new energy vehicle on-board transformers can be reduced by more than 30%).

 

3.Low Noise and High Stability:

The toroidal structure has good mechanical balance, leading to small vibration amplitude under magnetic field action, and its operating noise is 8 to 12dB lower than that of laminated cores. Amorphous alloys have strong chemical stability, with magnetic performance fluctuation of less than 5% within the wide temperature range of -40℃ to 120℃, making them suitable for harsh working conditions.

 

Amorphous ring Core​​​​​​​ Main Material Types and Applicable 

Amorphous toroidal cores are mainly made of iron-based amorphous alloys, which can be divided into two categories based on composition differences, corresponding to different application needs:

 

  • Iron-Silicon-Boron (Fe-Si-B) Series Amorphous Toroidal Cores:

They have the lowest magnetic loss and excellent high-frequency performance (applicable frequency: 1kHz to 1MHz). They are mainly used in high-frequency inductors, switching power supplies, and on-board chargers (OBC) for new energy vehicles to meet the demand for high power conversion efficiency.

 

  • Iron-Silicon-Boron-Phosphorus (Fe-Si-B-P) Series Amorphous Toroidal Cores:

Their cost is slightly lower than that of the Fe-Si-B series, with balanced magnetic performance and stronger corrosion resistance. They are suitable for industrial inverters, energy storage system transformers, and isolation transformers for medical equipment, balancing performance and economy.

 

Differences from Similar Toroidal Cores

Compared with silicon steel toroidal cores and nanocrystalline toroidal cores, amorphous toroidal cores are more positioned for "high-frequency and low-loss" performance. The specific differences are as follows:

 

Magnetic Loss and Frequency Adaptability: Amorphous toroidal cores have the lowest high-frequency loss (loss ≤ 0.3W/kg at 10kHz) and are suitable for high-frequency scenarios of 1kHz to 1MHz. Silicon steel toroidal cores are suitable for medium and low frequencies of 50Hz to 1kHz, with significantly increased high-frequency loss. Nanocrystalline toroidal cores have high-frequency performance close to that of amorphous ones but at a higher cost.

 

Cost and Mechanical Performance: The cost of amorphous toroidal cores is 30% to 50% higher than that of silicon steel cores and 20% to 30% lower than that of nanocrystalline cores. In terms of mechanical performance, amorphous strips are brittle and require curing protection, while silicon steel has good toughness and is easier to process.

 

Application Priority: For scenarios with strict requirements for high frequency and energy efficiency (e.g., new energy vehicle on-board systems, high-frequency power supplies), amorphous toroidal cores are preferred. For medium and low-frequency, low-cost needs (e.g., distribution transformers), silicon steel toroidal cores are selected. For ultra-high-frequency and extreme performance needs (e.g., aerospace equipment), nanocrystalline toroidal cores are chosen.
