The main distinction lies in the internal structure between oriented and non-oriented silicon steel sheets. In oriented silicon steel, the grains are predominantly aligned in a single direction, hence the term "oriented."

 

On the other hand, non-oriented silicon steel exhibits a random grain arrangement, resulting in higher heat loss compared to its oriented counterpart. This characteristic makes grain-oriented silicon steel suitable for meeting the stringent processing requirements of transformers and rotors.
