How reactor laminations work
Eddy currents:
In a solid core, circulating currents known as eddy currents form and cause energy loss through heat.
Insulation:
The laminations are coated with an electrical insulating material, such as varnish or a special coating, which creates a barrier between each sheet.
Resistance:
This barrier increases the electrical resistance within the core, effectively breaking up the path for eddy currents to flow, and drastically reducing their impact.
Efficiency:
By minimizing eddy current losses, the laminated core ensures that the reactor or transformer operates more efficiently and with less waste of energy.
