A nanocrystalline rectangular core is a soft magnetic material with a rectangular shape, used in applications like transformers and chokes due to its high permeability, low power loss, and high saturation flux density. Its composition of nanometer-sized magnetic grains in an amorphous matrix gives it excellent magnetic properties, allowing for smaller, more efficient devices. The rectangular shape can also simplify winding procedures.

nanocrystalline cores Comparison with Other Common Cores
1. vs Silicon Steel Cores
Operating Frequency: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores are suitable for medium-to-high frequency scenarios, while silicon steel cores are mainly used for power frequency scenarios.
Magnetic Performance: The initial magnetic permeability of nanocrystalline rectangle cores is significantly higher than that of silicon steel cores, and their iron loss at medium-to-high frequencies is much lower. However, silicon steel cores have higher saturation magnetic induction and can carry greater power at low frequencies.
Volume & Power Density: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores have higher power density, resulting in a smaller volume for the same power, which is more conducive to equipment miniaturization.
Application Scenarios: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores are often used in transformers for on-board power supplies and energy storage equipment; silicon steel cores are widely applied in traditional distribution transformers, power frequency motors, and other equipment.
2. vs Amorphous Cores
Magnetic Performance: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores have lower high-frequency loss and better energy efficiency. Their initial magnetic permeability is also higher, providing stronger magnetic conductivity and more accurate signal conversion.
Thermal Stability: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores have a higher Curie temperature and a wider temperature tolerance range. After long-term use, their magnetic performance attenuates less, and they exhibit better aging resistance.
Cost: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores are slightly more expensive than amorphous cores, but in scenarios with high performance requirements, their performance advantages can offset the cost difference.
Application Scenarios: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores are suitable for equipment with strict performance requirements, such as medical device power supplies and high-precision sensors; amorphous cores are mostly used in equipment with relatively loose performance requirements, such as ordinary inverters and low-voltage inductors.
3. vs Ferrite Cores
Operating Frequency: Nanocrystalline rectangle cores are mainly suitable for medium-to-high frequencies, while ferrite cores are more suitable for ultra-high frequency scenarios.
Magnetic Performance: The saturation magnetic induction of nanocrystalline rectangle cores is much higher than that of ferrite cores, allowing them to carry greater power with the same volume. However, ferrite cores have lower loss at ultra-high frequencies.
Volume & Density: Ferrite cores are lighter in density but have a larger volume for the same power.
Cost: Ferrite cores are lower in cost and suitable for ultra-high frequency, low-power scenarios, such as RF filters and small communication inductors; nanocrystalline rectangle cores are mostly used in medium-to-high frequency, high-power equipment such as energy storage converters and industrial frequency converters.
Applications of nanocrystalline rectangular cores
Current Transformers (CTs): They are used in CTs for applications like high-voltage power transmission, electronic watt-hour meters, and leakage protection switches due to their high permeability, which increases accuracy.
Power Supplies: Rectangular cores are used in various power supplies, including those for electric locomotives, DC converters, and other high-frequency industrial power supplies.
Electric Vehicles (EVs): Nanocrystalline cores are crucial in EV systems, serving as components in electric drive and control systems.
Other Electrical Systems:
- Solar power inverters
- High-speed railway power systems
- Common mode chokes for electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression
- High-frequency transformers
- Sensors
