Product Introduction
The ONAF (Oil Natural, Air Forced) cooling transformer features a robust, dual-cooling design. Its core consists of low-loss silicon steel laminations stacked to minimize eddy current losses, paired with high-conductivity copper windings (primary/secondary) insulated by dielectric paper. The oil-immersed tank, constructed from welded steel, houses the core and windings, with corrugated side panels for natural oil circulation. A forced air-cooling system-including fans and radiators-augments heat dissipation: fans blow air over external radiators to accelerate cooling during high loads, enhancing capacity by 30–40% compared to natural air cooling (ONAN). The onaf transformer includes a conservator (optional) for oil volume compensation, pressure relief valves for safety, and bushings for electrical connections. This structure balances mechanical strength, thermal efficiency, and operational flexibility, making it suitable for industrial grids and heavy-load applications.

Working Principle of 800 kVA ONAF Cooling Transformer
The 800 kVA ONAF cooling transformer operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction, combined with a hybrid cooling system for efficient heat management:
Electromagnetic Induction
The primary winding receives alternating current (AC), generating a fluctuating magnetic flux in the low-loss silicon steel core.
This flux induces a voltage in the secondary winding, achieving power transfer between different voltage levels (stepping up/down) based on the turns ratio of the windings.
Cooling Mechanism (ONAF)
Natural Oil Circulation: Insulating oil (mineral or ester) in the tank acts as both a dielectric and coolant. As the core and windings heat up during operation, the oil absorbs heat, expands, and rises naturally to the top of the tank.
Forced Air Cooling: External fans and radiators (cooling fins) are activated when load increases or temperatures rise. The fans blow air over the radiators, accelerating heat dissipation from the oil as it circulates through the radiator channels. This forced air cooling enhances the oil natural air forced cooling transformer's capacity to handle higher loads (typically 30–40% overload compared to natural cooling modes like ONAN).
Key Components in Operation
Conservator (Optional): Maintains oil volume stability by accommodating thermal expansion/contraction, preventing direct contact between oil and air to reduce oxidation.
