Transformer Silicon Steel, also known as silicon steel Sheet or Electrical Steel, it is a ferro-silicon soft magnetic alloy steel with very low carbon content, usually containing 0.5% to 4.5% silicon. The addition of silicon can increase the resistivity and maximum permeability of iron to reduce the coercivity, iron loss and magnetic aging.
At the heart of every transformer lies the transformer core, and the material used for this core plays a pivotal role in determining the efficiency and performance of the transformer. Two materials commonly used in transformer cores are silicon steel and CRGO (Cold-Rolled Grain-Oriented) electrical steel.
GNEE has a vision to be a reputed and most reliable manufacturer and exporter of CRGOelectrical steel laminations ,Slit coil and Active Core Assemblies - Built core.
Our standard practice is to initially check the CRGO materials received from the steel mills, for thickness, width, weight and no-load iron losses.
During the slitting and cutting process, we use electronic scale, vernier callipers, micro meter, and iron-loss tester and Epstein test, to ensure that the quality, dimensions and core losses are checked and maintained at every stage.
Slitting is done with caution and ensuring the right setting of blades to diminish any burr or unwanted shear force, Tolerances in Dimensions & Shape conforms to Standard, Uniquely desiqned software is used to determine the planning of CRGO Coil slitting for optimum use of material.Cutting of material is under supervision of highly experienced engineers, in fully automated CNc lines.
The basic Raw material is Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Steel(CRGO). Every coils is initially checked for Core Losses(lron losses), by the Core loss tester, Epstein tester, surface insulation and bend test checked before slitting the coil. The raw material is used only after it passes the quality checks.
The finished core laminations/ core assembly and Slit coil are well packed on wooden pallets, ensuring that there is no damage to the finished product. We provide complete traceability of material given to our customers.

The difference between oriented silicon steel and non-oriented silicon steel
Non-oriented silicon steel: ferro-silicon alloy with very low carbon content. In the deformed and annealed steel sheet, its grains are distributed randomly. The silicon content of the alloy is 1.5% to 3.0%, or the sum of the silicon and aluminum content is 1.8% to 4.0%. The products are usually cold-rolled plates or strips, which are mainly used to manufacture motors and generators.

Types of electrical steels: grain- oriented electrical steel and non-oriented electrical steel
Electrical steel sheets are soft magnetic materials, for which high permeability and low magnetic core loss are the most important requirements to be met.
Therefore, electrical steel sheets are very widely used for multiple applications such as transformers, magnetic shield, and magnetic cores of electrical motors and generators. Electrical steels are typically classified into two groups in terms of their specific magnetic anisotropy.
One group are the grain-oriented electrical steel sheet that has a very strong crystallographic Goss texture and is highly anisotropic with one or two magnetic easy axes lying in the sheet plane since the easy axes in Fe–Si lie along the <100> directions. The other group are the non-oriented steels that. They have more raendom texture.
Grain-oriented FeSi steels are often referred to as doubly oriented electrical steels as they have has two perpendicular low-loss magnetic axes in the sheet plane.
Why do transformers use silicon steel sheets as cores?
Transformers use silicon steel sheets as cores because silicon steel sheets have high magnetic permeability and low resistance characteristics.
In a transformer, the iron core mainly plays the role of conducting magnetic flux. Therefore, the magnetic permeability of the iron core is very critical. Silicon steel sheet is a specially treated steel material with very high magnetic permeability, which can effectively conduct magnetic flux, and reduce magnetic flux loss and eddy current loss.
In addition, the transformer will produce electromagnetic induction during its operation, which will generate eddy currents in the iron core. These eddy currents cause energy losses and heating of the core, thereby reducing the efficiency of the transformer. Silicon steel sheets have low resistance characteristics, which can reduce eddy current losses and improve the efficiency of the transformer.
Therefore, using silicon steel sheets as the material of the transformer core can improve the efficiency of the transformer, reduce energy loss, and reduce the heat generated by the transformer, thereby extending the service life of the transformer.
