The difference between oriented and unoriented silicon steel
01
Different in nature
Oriented silicon steel: Oriented silicon steel, also known as cold-rolled transformer steel, is an important ferrosilicon alloy used in the transformer (iron core) manufacturing industry.
Unoriented silicon steel: Unoriented silicon steel is a ferrosilicon alloy with very low carbon content, and its grains are randomly oriented in the deformed and annealed steel plate.

Different characteristics
Oriented silicon steel: The magnetic properties of oriented silicon steel are strongly directional, with the lowest iron loss value in the rolling direction, the highest permeability and a high magnetic induction value under a certain magnetization field. The silicon content of oriented silicon steel is about 3%, and it is required that the oxide inclusion content in the steel is low, and it must contain some inhibitor (MnS,A1N).
Non-oriented silicon steel: non-oriented silicon steel containing silicon 0.8%-4.8% of ferrosilicon alloy, hot and cold rolled into a thickness of less than 1mm silicon steel sheet. The addition of silicon can increase the resistivity and maximum permeability of iron, and reduce coercivity, core loss (iron loss) and magnetic aging.

Different production process
Oriented silicon steel: Oriented silicon steel is smelted by oxygen converter, and the billet is rolled into finished thickness by hot rolling, normalizing, cold rolling, intermediate annealing and secondary cold rolling, and then decarburized and high-temperature annealing, and finally coated with an insulating layer.
Non-oriented silicon steel: pre-desulfurization of molten iron, and secondary desulfurization by adding Ca0+CaF: flux or rare earth elements and calcium during bconverter blowing. The boiling molten steel is further desulfurized after being decarburized by vacuum treatment. Ferrosilicon with low content of titanium and zirconium was selected for alloying.

Cold rolled silicon steel sheet
Grain unoriented and grain oriented steel strip
Grain non-oriented cold rolled strip is usually used as an iron core for motors or welding transformers. Grain oriented cold rolled strip is used as the core of power transformers, pulse transformers and magnetic amplifiers. Cold rolled oriented thin silicon steel strip is 0.30 or 0.35mm thick oriented silicon steel strip, and then pickling, cold rolling and annealing made.
Cold rolled non-oriented silicon steel sheet is the billet or continuous casting billet hot rolled into a thickness of about 2.3mm coil. The cold-rolled electrical steel strip has the characteristics of flat surface, uniform thickness, high stacking coefficient, good punching property, and higher magnetic induction and lower iron loss than the hot-rolled electrical steel strip.
By using cold strips instead of hot rolled strips to manufacture motors or transformers, the weight and volume can be reduced by 0-25%. If the cold-rolled orientation strip is used, the performance is better, and the hot-rolled strip or low-grade cold-rolled strip is replaced by it, the power consumption of the transformer can be reduced by 45%-50%, and the working performance of the transformer is more reliable.
Definition of non-oriented silicon steel sheet
Non-oriented silicon steel sheet is a silicon steel sheet with non-oriented deformation texture crystal structure according to a certain production process.
