What Is Silicon Steel?
Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel, is a silicon-alloyed steel containing 1.0% to 4.5% silicon and less than 0.08% carbon.
As the core soft magnetic material used in power systems, electric motors and electromagnetic equipment, silicon steel is widely known as the "heart of electric motors" and the "soul of transformers".
It is an indispensable basic material in the electromagnetic industry.
Two Main Types of Silicon Steel
1. Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel (GO / CRGO)
With directional grain structure, CRGO silicon steel provides excellent unidirectional magnetic properties and ultra-low iron loss.
- Main applications: Transformers, current transformers, reactors, high & low voltage power distribution equipment
- Standard thickness: 0.23 mm, 0.30 mm (thinner sheet = lower loss)
- Main grades: 27Q120, 30Q120, 30Q130
2. Non-Oriented Silicon Steel (NGO / CRNGO)
NGO silicon steel features uniform and stable magnetic properties in all directions, ideal for rotating magnetic fields.
- Main applications: Industrial motors, water pumps, compressors, home appliances, new energy drive motors
- Standard thickness: 0.35 mm, 0.50 mm
- Common grades: B35A250, B50A470, B50A600
