Special Purpose Transformer Core

The Special Purpose Transformer Core is responsible for creating the magnetic path in the circuit. Today, most laminated magnetic cores on the market are made from silicon steel sheets, chosen for their ability to handle the core's two primary types of losses: hysteresis loss and eddy current loss.

• Hysteresis Loss: When a transformer operates with alternating current (AC), a phenomenon called hysteresis can cause energy losses in the Laminated Steel Core. Using a transformer core helps reduce this effect to a certain extent, which also limits the surface temperature rise of the transformer during operation.
• Eddy Current Loss: This loss occurs due to the alternating current generating induced currents (called eddy currents) in the Transformer Iron Core. Eddy currents can lead to an increase in the core's surface temperature. However, because silicon steel has a high resistivity, it helps reduce the impact of eddy currents, which in turn lowers this type of loss.
