When Silicon Steel Might Be Used In Transformer Core
Silicon steel is sometimes used for medium-frequency transformers (up to several kHz) with very thin laminations or when the design requires high saturation flux density and the frequency is not excessively high.
For example, solar inverters or industrial converters operating in the lower kHz range may still use silicon steel cores, but they are not ideal for frequencies above ~10 kHz.
