Grain-oriented silicon steel is a soft magnetic material widely used in transformer cores. Our results will be summarized; secondary recrystallization behavior has been studied by in situ observations utilizing synchrotron X-ray topography. The results support a selective growth mechanism. The migration of Goss grains is controlled by inhibitors. The sharper Goss grains (which have a higher CSL boundary frequency with the matrix) begin to grow preferentially, while other grains are blocked by the inhibitors. The secondary recrystallization behavior can be explained based on this CSL model. In the initial stage, the inhibitor gradient along the thickness direction promotes the selective growth of Goss below the surface layer, while in the later stage, the inhibitor decay rate dominates the selective growth of Goss. The inhibitor and CSL boundary cooperate to affect the selective growth of Goss, and the Goss grains evolve into coarse grains.
