Manufacturing Process and Performance Control of High Permeability Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel (HiB)

 

The production of GO silicon steel is regarded as the "crown jewel" of metallurgical industry, involving 18 critical processes including steelmaking, hot rolling, normalization, and cold rolling. In the decarbonization annealing stage, the material must be treated for 5 minutes in an 800°C hydrogen-nitrogen mixed atmosphere to maintain carbon content below 30ppm. For more sophisticated HiB steel (high permeability grain-oriented silicon steel), additional laser scribing is required to create micron-scale grooves on the surface, reducing magnetic domain width to under 2mm.

The shape control in cold rolling is an art form - a six-high rolling mill must reduce 3mm-thick hot-rolled plates to 0.3mm with thickness deviation within ±3μm. The continuous decarbonization annealing line utilizing electromagnetic induction heating can uniformly heat steel strips to 830°C at 20m/min, forming perfect secondary recrystallization structures. The precise control of these processes directly determines the final magnetic performance grade of crgo silicon steel.
