The percentage of silicon added to silicon steel varies depending on the specific application and can be up to 6.5%. In some applications, such as high-efficiency motors and transformers, the silicon content is about 3% of the steel composition. In other cases where efficiency requirements are not as high, such as certain motor applications, the silicon content can be as low as 2%. Although more expensive than ordinary carbon steel, silicon steels with different silicon contents can be produced for specific applications.
